The email archive migration market is changing again.
Quest has published lifecycle dates for Archive Shuttle which show current versions 11.4 and 11.5 moving to limited support on 6 November 2026, with support discontinued on 5 April 2027.
For organisations and migration partners that have built their archive migration approach around Archive Shuttle, that creates an obvious question:
What comes next?
Archive Shuttle support ends in April 2027
Archive Shuttle has been widely used for migrating enterprise email archives between legacy platforms and destinations including Microsoft 365 and Exchange. Quest itself describes the product as supporting archive and journal migrations while maintaining audit trails and chain of custody.
The lifecycle dates mean that partners with migration projects extending into 2027 should be considering their plans now rather than waiting until support ends.
Quest Archive Manager is also approaching the end of its lifecycle. Quest’s published information shows current versions 5.10 and 5.11 moving to limited support on 2 March 2027, followed by discontinued support on 2 March 2028.
This isn’t simply a technology issue. For migration specialists, MSPs and Microsoft partners, it is also about maintaining the ability to deliver archive migration projects for customers.
Migration capability still matters
Legacy email archives aren’t disappearing.
Organisations continue to need to move historic email from platforms including Enterprise Vault, Mimecast, Barracuda, EV.Cloud, Proofpoint and other legacy environments into Microsoft 365 and other modern platforms.
Those projects can involve millions of messages, complex retention requirements, journal archives, leaver data, shortcuts and large volumes of historic information.
The migration technology may change. The requirement doesn’t.
An alternative for migration partners
Ultimate Migrator provides software and tools for email archive migration, allowing partners to maintain their own migration capability rather than handing the entire project to a third-party managed migration service.
Our technology supports migration from a range of legacy email archive platforms and has been used on complex, large-scale projects, including the migration of Enterprise Vault data for approximately 180,000 NHS Wales users.
For partners, that means the migration service can remain part of your own proposition and customer relationship, supported by specialist migration technology and expertise where required.
Don’t wait until April 2027
If Archive Shuttle is part of your current migration toolkit, April 2027 may seem some distance away.
But archive migration projects can run for months, particularly where discovery, planning, testing and large data volumes are involved.
Now is a sensible time to review:
- existing and planned Archive Shuttle projects
- customers with legacy email archives still to migrate
- migration capability required beyond April 2027
- alternative migration technology
- how archive migration fits into your Microsoft 365 services.
A product reaching the end of support doesn’t mean the requirement for archive migration disappears.
For partners, it may instead be an opportunity to decide how you want to deliver those migrations in future.
